#SchuyIsTheLimit: How You Can Support A Fellow Traveler

BY WENDY HUNG

In the last few days, we’ve been seeing tens of thousands of readers come onto Jetset Times, scrolling through Schuyler Arakawa’s articles. As many of you know, Schuyler is a former contributor for Jetset Times. During an excursion in Colombia, her head was hit by a massive rock from 30 feet above where she was swimming, causing her to undergo multiple surgeries repairing severe damages in her face and skull, lung and five fractured vertebrae in her spine.

Her family was able to fly to Colombia to be with her through difficult surgeries. Last week, Schuyler finally traveled back to Florida amid being still heavily sedated.

For those of you who don’t know Schuyler, she is a beautiful young woman who beams of happiness with the eagerness to change the world. She’s said:

When you want to change the world, getting the world involved is the only way to do it.

She began writing for Jetset Times during her time at Yale University, where she focused on market-based solutions to poverty and international development. She was also heavily involved for the Hult Prize at Yale, a student competition on social enterprise funded by the Clinton Foundation and the Hult Business School. After graduating, she’s been using the Gordon Grand Fellowship to examine Peru’s handmade commodities through food, water, shelter and clothing.

To me, Schuyler absolutely defines the modern jetsetter who experiences the world to the fullest and only sees it as a destination for her contributions to make it a better place. As a travel platform that promotes sharing with an open mind and an open heart, I want to show you a few things:

1. A gofundme webpage where you can help Schuyler and her family as they endure this challenging time.

2. Schuyler’s family has created a Facebook page: Schuy is the Limit, to accommodate immense outpouring support with updates, songs and videos to help her stay strong.

3. Schuyler’s mother, Meredith, has asked friends and family to reach out to Schuyler by creating “audio flowers” to send encouragement. “For those of you who want to reach out…we suggest (and invite you) to post Youtube songs, mp3s, written verse, shoutouts, love poems, audio books, favorite quotes, anything that will make a heart soar… in other words ‘audio flowers’ until we get those eyes bright again!”

If you’ve created them, you can email us or send your file to contact@jetsettimes.com. My team and I will personally make sure it goes on our YouTube channel where we’ve created a playlist for #SchuyIsTheLimit including a video she created for Jetset Times after her study abroad in Barcelona. The point of the playlist will be a place where we channel as much positive energy as we can to help Schuyler through her recovery journey. It’s also a place of love, where she can look through once her vision is strong.

Thanks so much for your help and let’s keep praying!

Love,
