3 Apps To Download So You Can Travel Like A “Know-It-All” Local

Today’s savvy travelers are much more interested in checking out the local scene rather than spending all day surrounded by tourists. Wanderlust through small alleys, trying neighborhood restaurants beloved by locals and chilling at hidden gems that rarely appear inside the pages of mainstream guides.

Without a friend living in a foreign city to recommend where you should go, we’ve discovered three excellent apps to play that know-it-all role. Just a download away, you won’t find yourself in a hotspot jam-packed with sightseers.

1. Like a Local

For travelers who want a list of cool bars and local hang outs, Like a Local app is your best bet. A hub of recommendations from locals who live in the city, this app even helps out locals who want to explore in their own neighborhoods.

The app works offline so even if you’re traveling without free Wi-Fi in the middle of nowhere, you can access lists to dive right in with fellow city slickers.

2. Spotted by Locals

Here’s an app that’s truly always up-to-date. Spotted by Locals is fantastic for foodies who didn’t make reservations ahead of time and want to experiment with a local restaurant at the last minute.

Headquartered in Amsterdam, all “spotters” are selected by founders Sanne & Bart van Poll. Despite being an offline app, Spotted by Locals picks up your current location and suggests where you should go eat, drink and see on the spot.

3. Localeur

Localeur is a great app for specifics. Want a unique spot to catch a movie in Miami? How about great work out spots in Portland? Or hip and healthy restaurants in San Antonio?

Currently offering advice in U.S. cities, these cool lists compiled by locals cater to travelers looking for a particular ambiance, so that you can indulge in the best tasting menu in DC or get holed up with a laptop in Chicago this winter.
