EXHIBITION: “Fly, Sail, Journey – Louis Vuitton” At Grand Palais, Paris

“Volez, Voguez, Voyagez”!

Direct translation: Fly, Sail, Journey…is the theme of Louis Vuitton’s new exhibition at Grand Palais in Paris. Curated by the galliera’s director Olivier Saillard, the show highlights the house of Louis Vuitton from 1854 to today via a nine-chapter look inside Louis Vuitton’s travel accessories and trunks.

Fans of the fashion brand can get an intimate perspective at the very first trunk, a vintage malle designed in 1906, as well as 200 rarely seen travel accessories and trunks including: record holders, vanity cases and modern standing trunks.

Michael Burke, Vuitton’s chief executive officer, said:

Louis Vuitton has always been at the avant-garde of creation. More than a century after, if Louis Vuitton remains at the helm of fashion, it’s because we continuously inspire ourselves from the past while anticipating trends of our times. For this exhibition, Olivier Saillard has immersed himself in the archives of our Maison to decode its secrets. He delivers a fresh vision of our past, present, and future.

It’s no mistake the exhibition is held at the Grand Palais since Louis Vuitton’s first set of luggage were displayed in the same location during the establishment’s inaugural back in 1900’s World Fairs. As the man behind “travel items and leather goods,” George Vuitton’s exhibition of travel products were presented in the form of a carousel and soon became the center of attention. At the turn of the century, the fashion house quickly became known for creativity and luxury.

The exhibition is free, and continues until February 21, 2016.
