Delta’s new tool will meet your needs, even on your birthday.

Following last year’s release of Lumia 1520 phablets to its 22,000 flight attendants, Delta announced a new feature on its flight attendants’ smartphones this week. “Guest Service Tool” allows crew members to instantly access your name and reward program status.

Instead of flipping through a 500-page long manual, crew members can assist your flight connections or in-flight preferences via the palm of their hands. Starting on Sept 1, Delta will upload onboard manuals to flight attendants’ smartphones which will reduce carbon footprint by 1,800 metric tons per year.

Delta’s Senior Vice President for in-flight service Allison Ausband said:

Eventually, flight attendants will be able to deliver food and beverage options that meet customer preferences and better identify those customers who may have had a previous disruption in their travel.

The new feature will be extended to in-flight amenities later on. While some passengers need more privacy than others, Ausband emphasizes that the new tool will only include the data passengers provide to the airline.

Most airlines are now working on instant access to passengers’ information as a way to deliver quicker and better services to customers. So that even on your birthday, you can receive a special shoutout by a flight attendant.
