According to PatentYogi, the world’s leading aircraft manufacturer recently filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for another patent revolutionizing travel speed to Mach 4.5 which means your flights between London and NYC would cut down to one hour, between San Francisco and Taipei to three hours.

This so-called “ultra-speed plane” combines the powers of turbojets and a rocket engine to escalate flight speed, doubling the performance of a Concorde. To make this work, the rocket engine ignites after the turbojets, and vertically shoots the aircraft to supersonic speeds with hydrogen-powered ramjets taking over afterwards.

Airbus explains this new concept can also reduce the supersonic noise that the speeds tend to trigger.

Shorter flights and more time to enjoy a new city? We’re so down for that!
