Looking for where to stay in NYC can be an overwhelming experience, unless you’re frequently jetsetting to the city and already have a place to call home away from home. The problem is, there are simply far too many hotels to choose from. Locking down one neighborhood which you know you’ll love is a great way to start. Then, narrow down your choices by what types of hotels speak to you the most.

You just can’t go wrong with Soho. It’s where the trendy shops are, where you’ll find mouthwatering restaurants and the hippest bars in town. After a few days of meandering through neighborhood alleys, Crosby and Thompson will become your favorite names around the blocks.

To locate exactly where to stay in a neighborhood offering 24/7 art, culture and food, I’ve filtered down to six fantastic choices for the cutting-edge crowd who are fans of bohemian yet modern chic with a ton of luxury.

1. Soho Grand Hotel

310 W Broadway, New York, NY 10013 (map, website)

As the first luxury downtown boutique hotel, the Soho Grand has garnered much media attention especially being listed as one of interior designer Nate Berkus’ favorite places to stay on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Located in the heart of Soho, this is a perfect choice for travelers yearning for the fusion of boutique-luxury, art galleries and chic bars for delicious cocktails.

2. The James

27 Grand St, New York, NY 10013 (map, website)

It’s no secret that Jimmy is one of my favorite places to grab drinks during New York summers. The bar and pool is located on the rooftop of The James, a contemporary hotel captivating fans of the mod-chic. Guestrooms are typically New York-style, confined for those who are normally pampered with massive space, but the decor is smart and beautiful. The James’ hugely popular restaurant, David Burke Kitchen, will satiate any traveler’s appetite with a theatrical feast.

3. SIXTY Soho

60 Thompson St, New York, NY 10012 (map, website)

A personal favorite of mine, SIXTY Soho describes itself as “understated-yet-sophisticated, subtle-yet-chic.” And it truly is exactly that. With additional SIXTY hotels located in other major U.S. cities, the brand is sexy without flaunting it in your face. The flagship hotel in Soho was designed by Tara Bernerd, the British designer brought tasteful European styles into rooms that feel like dapper escapes.  SIXTY Soho often welcomes famous faces including celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe.

4. NOMO Soho

9 Crosby St, New York, NY 10013 (map, website)

In Soho, there’s no better location than Crosby Street. If you remember Jean Cocteau’s French film La Belle et la Bête, NOMO SOHO’s vintage cool decor is ideal for travelers who want a piece of sanctuary after a day of hopping through bustling streets of NYC. Luxurious blue carpets and ivory furniture exude a crisp breeze, completed by designer Benjamin Noriega Ortiz. The hotel’s rooftop offers a gorgeous panoramic view of the city. Along with NOMO Kitchen Restaurant and a fashionable cocktail lounge, this hotspot welcomes a swanky crowd who knows what’s fabulous.

5. Hotel Hugo

525 Greenwich St, New York, NY 10013 (map, website)

Talk about boho-chic. Hotel Hugo’s style radiates old-school charm,  and full of Italian flair. Situated on the western part of Soho, the neighborhood might be quieter than other busy alleys in the area but the convenient Hotel Hugo is within walking distance to meatpacking district, Tribeca and the West Village. Inside the 20th-century building, the hotel offers 124 spacious rooms, each speaks to its elegant and creative guests. Don’t leave the hotel without experiencing its rooftop bar embodying a lavish view of the Hudson.

6. Jet Luxury at the Trump Soho

246 Spring St, New York, NY 10013 (map, website)

The can’t-miss posh high-rise, the Jet Luxury at the Trump Soho boasts 46 massive floors. Designed by Fendi Casa, guestrooms exude the classic Manhattan loft-style structure with a whole lotta luxury. Floor-to-ceiling windows deliver views of the Hudson, Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. The Trump brand is always considerate of business travelers who appreciate extra touches of convenience, high technology and work-friendly amenities.
