Illustrator and street artist Joe Caslin has cast an artistic spell over Ireland and it’s powerfully moving.

If you happen to be in the city of Galway (west of Ireland in the province of Connacht,) you’ll see his compelling mural on the side of a 15th century castle.

On Friday, the Irish people will make a decision on legalizing gay marriage. It will be the first time a country is holding a national vote on this particular issue of marriage referendum.

Inspired by Frederic William Burton’s painting The Meeting on the Turret Stairs, the 50-foot drawing portrays two females in embrace. Caslin explained to the Irish Times:

The images that I wanted to show are things that are dignified. To show love, that’s essentially what it is, the equality that people should have no matter what sort of a relationship they’re in.

The process of creating this piece of biodegradable art included the design blown up by a printer. By using a potato-based adhesive, the art piece was glued to the side of the castle.

Caslin also created a similar mural delivering the same message last month in Dublin. The four-story tall mural was of two men also in embrace.

From city to countryside, Caslin’s intent is clear. Delivered poignantly in elegance.
