What happens when a plane’s got overheating seats?

Air France experienced the first day of 2015 with an emergency landing in Montreal. Flight 54 took off from Paris and was on its way to Washington D.C..

But Boeing 777 diverted to Canada due to fire caused by crushed lithium battery in the seat mechanism in the business class. First class cabin was reportedly empty.

The plane safely landed in Montreal with 269 passengers and 17 crew. Emergency crew did not detect any fire or odor from smoke.

The plane refueled in Montreal then was en route to United States’ capital.
