BY TEAM JST

iTaiwan wifi

There’s nowhere else in the world offering this savvy and convenient service! The best part is, this will cost you nothing! Not a dime.

Last year, Taiwan was the first destination in the world to provide absolutely free access to wireless internet for travelers. iTaiwan (aka: “government indoor public area free wi-fi access”) is now upgrading its services so that every international traveler like you can use free Wi-Fi up to 30 days of your stay in Taiwan. If you’re staying longer, you can have the possibility of extending to 90 days after.

Prior to this, the only way for travelers to receive iTaiwan username and password was to stand in line at the airport. Now, anyone planning a trip to Taiwan can register on this website before the trip.

Here’s what you would need to do:

good information. I am always in Taiwan a few times a year but I found that getting a prepaid card and subscribing to their internet plan is much better. I am using FET prepaid with their 1GB data plan for month which cost me NTD180 (excluding calls). To me, I found it is better to get a plan than wifi (which you will need to keep finding place a signal to get onto the net.) especially when you need google for something in the middle of the somewhere or a street. =P

I was really excited upon reading this and tried this on my trip recently. However, based on personal experience about 1 month ago, iTaiwan had super shitty reception and you can’t connect onto it anywhere in the country!! I literally tried finding the wifi signal everywhere I went including all the big cities and everywhere in Taipei and was unable to connect on anywhere! Don’t waste your time trying to do it. I recommend unlocking your phone prior to your trip and buying a plan from 7-11. Way easier, way more reliable, pretty cheap for unlimited internet usage too.

jus came back from taiwan. They r really a wifi free country which u can mostly tapped on without registering. Knowing that they r wifi free nation, still i bought sim card for only NT500 for a 10 days package. Of cos, shorter duration means cheaper package. Unlimited 3G till last day. Trustme, their 3G is way better than our 4G by huge distance. Pay approx SGD20 to stay connected even if ur up in places like jiu fen or shi fen.
